Commercial Excavation
Mass excavation, cut-and-fill, and bulk earthwork for commercial and industrial sites throughout the Houston metro.
Stone River excavates and constructs detention ponds and stormwater management ponds for commercial developments and industrial facilities. We work from civil drawings, coordinate with your engineering team, and deliver finished ponds that meet drainage requirements.

Detention Pond in the Houston area is not a generic earthwork task. The flat topography, heavy rainfall events, and Harris County drainage requirements mean that a pond built to the wrong elevation, with the wrong slope, or with inadequate inlet and outlet sizing will not function and will not pass engineering review. A failed detention pond means redesign, re-excavation, and schedule loss.
Stone River builds commercial detention ponds from civil drawings, working in direct coordination with the project civil engineer or drainage engineer. We handle the full excavation scope, shape the pond basin and slopes to engineered specification, and coordinate inlet and outlet structure installation with your concrete and utility subcontractors.
We have constructed detention ponds across the Houston metro and the greater Texas region for commercial office parks, industrial facilities, retail developments, and multifamily projects. Houston stormwater detention requirements are among the most stringent in Texas and we know how to execute pond construction to meet them.
Our foremen read civil and drainage drawings. We do not need a separate interpreter between your engineer and our equipment.
We have built detention ponds under Harris County Flood Control District requirements and are familiar with the review and inspection process.
Pond construction requires close coordination between the excavation contractor and the concrete crew installing inlet and outlet structures.
We have constructed ponds ranging from small single-lot retention features to multi-acre regional detention basins.
Every project in our portfolio was completed on time and to grade. Browse a sample of our recent commercial and industrial work below.
Full-scope site preparation for a 14-acre industrial facility along the Grand Parkway corridor in west Houston. Scope included mass excavation, cut-and-fill earthwork, GPS-controlled finish grading, and stormwater detention integration. Delivered on schedule for general contractor handoff.
Heavy land clearing across 22 acres of mixed brush, timber, and stumps for an industrial pad site. Site cleared, debris removed, and rough grade established for GC mobilization.
Design-to-finish excavation and shaping of a 2.4-acre stormwater detention pond for a commercial development in Fort Bend County. Engineered slopes, inlet/outlet coordination, and finish grading to civil drawings.
Stone River's home base is Houston. We serve Harris County and the surrounding metro as our primary market, and we work across the Gulf Coast corridor and Central Texas for commercial and industrial scopes that match our capacity.
We construct detention ponds to a civil or drainage engineering design provided by the project team. We do not perform hydrological analysis or drainage design in-house. The civil drawings and drainage calculations are typically prepared by a civil engineer. Our role is to execute the excavation and earthwork scope to that design and to coordinate with the engineer during construction on any field conditions that require design input.
