Commercial earthwork is the foundation every other trade builds on. Get it wrong and the problems compound: subgrade failures under pavement, detention grades that do not pass HCFCD inspection, compaction test failures that push your schedule back three weeks while the testing firm schedules a retest.
The root cause is almost always the same. The earthwork contractor did not manage material correctly, did not sequence work fronts around soil moisture conditions, or bid the job without understanding what was actually in the ground. By the time the problem surfaces, you are already behind.
Stone River self-performs commercial earthwork with our own equipment and crew. We review the geotechnical report before we bid, sequence operations around field conditions rather than a fixed calendar, and document grade and compaction results as we go. When the earthwork closes out, the site is ready for the next trade. That is what you are paying for.
Cut, fill, stockpile, and disposal planned at bid time. Not after the trucks are already running.
We sequence work fronts around field conditions, not a calendar. Houston clay does not care about your schedule.
Grade verification and compaction records delivered at closeout. Part of the scope, not a follow-up request.
One contractor for the full earthwork scope. One call if something is wrong.
Every project in our portfolio was completed on time and to grade. Browse a sample of our recent commercial and industrial work below.
Full-scope site preparation for a 14-acre industrial facility along the Grand Parkway corridor in west Houston. Scope included mass excavation, cut-and-fill earthwork, GPS-controlled finish grading, and stormwater detention integration. Delivered on schedule for general contractor handoff.
Heavy land clearing across 22 acres of mixed brush, timber, and stumps for an industrial pad site. Site cleared, debris removed, and rough grade established for GC mobilization.
Design-to-finish excavation and shaping of a 2.4-acre stormwater detention pond for a commercial development in Fort Bend County. Engineered slopes, inlet/outlet coordination, and finish grading to civil drawings.
Stone River's home base is Houston. We serve Harris County and the surrounding metro as our primary market, and we work across the Gulf Coast corridor and Central Texas for commercial and industrial scopes that match our capacity.
Earthwork is the broader term. It covers the full scope of soil movement on a construction site, including excavation, grading, filling, compaction, and drainage infrastructure construction. Excavation refers specifically to cutting into the ground and removing material. Stone River bids and executes both as part of a unified earthwork scope rather than treating them as separate contracts.
Send us the civil drawings and site address. We will review the cut and fill volumes, confirm the geotechnical assumptions, and follow up with a scope-specific number within two business days.
